My Wari story 😀

First of all, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the organizing team- Pedalwali, MAA and WOW for conducting such a well-planned event🙏🙌. It provided me with the opportunity to meet God Vitthala, even though I have been living in Pune for the past 10 years.🙌🙌

Let me tell you an interesting story about my Wari ride. I'm a 36-year-old IT professional and a working mother, and I work at Snowflake. When I heard about the registration link for the Wari, I didn't waste any time and immediately registered🤭. I had wanted to participate last year too, but I hesitated because I wasn't sure if other women were taking part. However, being an adventurous person, I decided to register for a ‘2-way’ journey 🫣🙈.

I was incredibly excited and determined to complete the ‘2-way’ journey, no matter what. Some warned me about the challenges, saying it's tough with headwinds and all, but I remained optimistic, believing that if it's meant to be, God will make it happen. I always like “Jyada se jyada surrender karna hoga bas 😬”

I trained diligently for the ride but had an unexpected accident that complicated things. I had to convince my hubby to support my participation, and I even underwent tests due to severe headaches. Luckily, I was given the go-ahead to continue cycling….iske sath ki agar kuchh bhi thik ni lage to usi point par drop kar dena…I was like yes yes🤫🤫.. I gradually resumed my daily activities and even completed a long ride to assess my health and capabilities. I felt like ‘ Jab tum kisi ko shiddat se chaho to puri kayant tumko usse milane me lag jati hai”

Finally, the preparations for the Wari ride began. I was so excited and talked about it so much that I lost a few nights of good sleep. Even when I did manage to sleep, I dreamt only about cycling. On top of that, I faced intense pressure at work due to a major release scheduled right after the Wari. Despite all the challenges, I remained determined and thrilled to participate.

During the journey towards Pandharpur, at some point, I became negative and felt hopeless, thinking that I shouldn't have chosen to participate. I was experiencing nausea and extreme back and neck pain. Fortunately, my fellow cycling buddy, Shridhar, suggested that I should take a break. I believe the break helped settle my stomach, and I started feeling better. With the blessings of God, I experienced relief from nausea and back pain.

When I finally reached Pandharpur, my main goal was to meet Vitthala, the beloved God of the Wari. It felt as if bhagwan bol rahe hai "Don't worry, main hu na." I received the divine "Path Darshan" at 7:45 PM, a moment people often wait hours for. Afterwards, I returned to the hotel, had dinner, and bid farewell to my lunch table fellow friends. It was late, and I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried. So, I closed my eyes and prayed to God Vitthala, asking Him to be with me and help me throughout my journey.

I got ready and went down to the hall where I parked my bicycle. I was looking for other riders to have some company in case I needed help. I joined a group of riders I had never met before but who knew about me through an app- Strava. They appreciated my efforts and enthusiasm ( mujhe itna log jante hai 🧐🤔 ). As we started the return journey, I remembered the lessons from the first day—stay calm, be mindful of time. I managed my time well. We rode from Pandharpur to Tendburmi without taking a single break, maintaining a good speed of 26 km/h. After that, we took a hydration break and headed towards the breakfast point. I quickly finished my breakfast and started my journey alone, as I wanted to pass Indapur and Bhigwan areas as quickly as possible.

During the return journey, the weather was extremely hot, and it felt like riding in a fire. However, the support from the organizers was amazing. Every 4 km, we were provided with cold water, which felt like nectar during the ride. We reached the lunch point at 11:50 AM, just 4 km before Kurkum, right on schedule. After having lunch and combating some nausea with a cold drink, we resumed our journey with Jai, Koushik, and me riding together. To cope with the heat and my burning injury, we poured water on our jersey sleeves and pants, which provided some relief. I was like 'Vitthala Vitthala jai Vitthala. Tu hi aas hai, tu hi Vishwas hai, tu hi sarvipari hai....Jai hanuman ji....sabko yad kar rahi thi...bhagwan sath hai to sab possible hai🤝🙌🙏

Despite dealing with heavy traffic, we reached Pune, Hadapsar, by 5:30 PM. The worst part of the journey was navigating through the traffic. I took a tea break at a café and finally arrived home at 8:30 PM. The happiness and sense of accomplishment I felt from completing the ride cannot be expressed in words. I believe I was the only female rider who successfully completed this journey, and I owe it all to my beloved God, Vitthala. There was one more girl participating, but I believe she had quit her ride midway.

My message to all riders is that we are all capable of doing the '2way' Wari ride. The key is to manage your time effectively and take frequent hydration breaks to prevent dehydration and leg cramp issues that many people struggled with. Due to focusing on time management, I didn't take a single photo🤪😥 , so I couldn't create a great Insta reel. I'll have to do the ride again to make new wonderful memories 😂🤣

Thank you so much dear for all your sharing.

Yours loving'

ARATI CHAVAN
